Audiobooks continue to increase in popularity year after year, as the free time in our daily lives continues to decrease. If you're like most, you find audio books a convenient way of listening to the latest books by your favorite author during your daily commute, while exercising, or on a long road or business trip; where paperback books are just not an option.

Audio books come in several formats including CD, digital download and cassette tape (yes, you can still find audio books on TAPE), with CD and downloadable formats being the most popular today. Downloadable audiobooks can be played on your computer or on a compatible MP3 player such as an Apple iPod.

You can find audiobooks available through most audio book retailers in abridged and/or unabridged formats. An unabridged audio book is the full, uncut book while an abridged audiobook has been edited to shorten the length. While most prefer unabridged versions for the uncut story, those with less time like the option of the abridge books to shorten listening time while still getting the whole story.

Audiobooks are recorded with different narration styles. Some are simply a straight reading by the author or a narrator, while others are read by a cast of actors and actresses for a more dramatic experience. While some narrators are very even tone, as if reading to themselves, most narrators do a fantastic job of differentiating the characters with tonal changes in their voice, or other dramatic touches.
