Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance Audiobook by Barack ObamaIn this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a black African father and a white American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father, a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man, has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey; first to a small town in Kansas, from which he retraces the migration of his mother's family to Hawaii, and then to Kenya, where he meets the African side of his family, confronts the bitter truth of his father's life, and at last reconciles his divided inheritance.

For obvious reasons Barack Obama is constantly in the news today so I was very
interested to get a sense of who he really is, especially given that there's a
good chance he will be our next president. This autobiography did not disappoint
and the fact that he narrates this audio book is definitely a plus point
especially since he does such a great job with the narration.

Barack wrote this
autobiography in 1995 after graduating from Harvard Law School and before being
elected to the Illinois Senate. He recounts his very interesting and unusual
life and family history in great detail - everything from the death of his
father to his numerous travels. This autobiography covers his life up until the
point of his entering law school.

Obama's life is quite inspirational and I
feel that I got a real understanding of what kind of man he is from this
audiobook. I'm really looking forward to listening to The Audacity of Hope.
